Safety & Assurance Winner

We are delighted to announce the winner of the first Safety & Assurance Living our Values Award—Wood Group PSN’s Hummingbird Team.

Wood Group PSN Hummingbird Office WorkerAs duty holder for the Hummingbird FPSO, Wood Group PSN has complete responsibility for operations management of the installation, which is located in the Chestnut Field approximately 200km from Aberdeen.

When a business opportunity arose to perform the annual major shutdown of Hummingbird earlier than scheduled, and with very limited planning time available – just six weeks – the team members all demonstrated that they are actively living the Safety & Assurance Core Value by rising to the challenge and successfully delivering a safe and efficient project against very tight timescales and adverse weather conditions.

Safety & Assurance Value

Safety & Assurance is our top priority. We passionately care about the safety of our people and behave as safety leaders. We are committed to preventing injuries and ill health to our people and everyone we work with. We provide our people with the training, knowledge and tools to work safely and prevent accidents. We are focused on assuring the safety of everything we design, construct, operate and maintain.

The winning team comprises more than 40 people, including Hummingbird’s offshore core crew led by offshore installation managers Neil Mungo (who took on the role of shutdown coordinator) and Bill Armour, as well as an Aberdeen-based onshore support team led by Alan Mowat, operations superintendent and Caroline Totton, onshore asset planner. The entire team worked tirelessly to ensure the correct level of planning and scrutiny was applied to all of the work scopes involved in the project.

Wood Group PSN Hummingbird Offshore WorkerThe shutdown lasted four weeks and enabled essential inspection and maintenance activities to be carried out on Hummingbird, meaning all production was stopped for the duration of the project. Despite the pressures of tight deadlines and the adverse weather conditions offshore, the team developed and delivered a robust plan, and effectively communicated on progress through daily reports. It also demonstrated a consistently high level of safety awareness throughout all shutdown-related activities, as well as across crew changes, with zero incidents reported during the entire operation.

Congratulations to the Wood Group PSN Hummingbird team. They are all very worthy winners of this award, and a shining example of a team doing a great job under pressure, with a very positive outcome.
