Social Responsibility Award winner 2013
Wood Group PSN
Global warming, unpredictable weather and non-renewable energy sources make the environment a key topic that may affect the next generation. This is why Wood Group PSN Brazil's HSE team focused on educating children on the importance of protecting the environment. The team created an environmental education campaign that included the development and production of a booklet that was approved by the superintendent of the Government Institution for Environment. The team conducted short lectures at local schools and distributed 1,000 of the booklets to six to 14 year old students. This is the only formal environmental education these children will receive as there is no environmental culture implemented in the schools. An additional 1,000 booklets were given to Wood Group families, contractors, friends and sub-contractors.
Social Responsibility Value
Being socially responsible is integral to what we do. We aim to make a positive difference to the communities where we operate and seek ways to assist them. We prioritise the hiring and development of local people and work with local supply chains where we can. We are committed to minimising the impact of our activities on the environment by conserving resources, reducing waste and emissions, and preventing environmental pollution and we work with our customers to provide the best environmental solutions.
As Wood Group PSN Brazil's HSE manager explained, "The initiative caused a strong impact in our workforce because this kind of programme is rare in Brazil. Our workers are very proud to be part of a company which promotes external activities in surrounding communities. By educating children from a young age about the environment they will grow up with eco-friendly habits that will have a positive effect on their surroundings and their future in it."
