As the UK's nuclear ambitions accelerate, Back Nuclear Energy and Wood will bring together policymakers and industry leaders this October, during the UK’s national awareness week, to explore what it will take to deliver major nuclear programmes successfully and at scale.
The UK's nuclear ambitions are becoming increasingly clear. Secure, reliable and affordable energy systems are fundamental to economic prosperity, industrial competitiveness and societal wellbeing, and nuclear is expected to play an increasingly important role in delivering them.
With growing support for new nuclear fission development, alongside opportunities emerging in fusion, the focus is increasingly shifting from policy and ambition to delivery. Questions around investment confidence, programme readiness, workforce capability and long-term delivery certainty are moving higher up the agenda as government and industry work to bring forward the next generation of nuclear projects.
Against this backdrop, Back Nuclear Energy, in partnership with Wood, will host a programme of discussions in Westminster on 12-13 October, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, developers and investors to explore the practical challenges and opportunities facing the UK's nuclear sector.
At the centre of the programme will be a parliamentary roundtable, Making Nuclear Happen, which will explore a key question facing the industry:
What will it take to make the UK's nuclear ambitions financeable, deliverable and licenseable at scale?
The discussion will examine some of the most important factors influencing successful nuclear delivery, including investment confidence, delivery certainty, capability, supply chain readiness and long-term programme continuity.
Alongside the parliamentary programme, Wood will also contribute to the Back Nuclear Energy free-to-attend online conference, where Dr David Cole FREng, Wood’s Chief Operating Officer of Consulting, will lead a keynote discussion focused on the conditions required to improve delivery certainty and support successful nuclear deployment at scale.
